Dear Dr. Ford,
First and foremost, I would like to thank you for your remarkable courage in coming forward against Brett Kavanaugh. I cannot even imagine how terrifying it must have been to do so, knowing just how severe the backlash would be. It's practically a Herculean task to come forward after any sexual assault, let alone one where the perpetrator is being considered to be on the U.S. Supreme Court!
Even though Mr. Kavanaugh was, unfortunately, confirmed to the Supreme Court despite your moving, powerful testimony, he did not emerge entirely victorious. Yes, he may have gotten the job, but you, Dr. Ford, achieved something much greater. You have inspired countless young girls and women (to say nothing of young boys, men, and non-binary individuals) to speak out against their assailants, even when the whole world seems to be against you. You are a beacon of courage for high-school and college-aged females today.
The remarkable bravery and selflessness you displayed during the Senate hearings had a massive impact on solidifying the importance of the #MeToo movement. The many deplorable people who attempted to discredit you or emphasize how you were "ruining Judge Kavanaugh's life" proved that society is most definitely NOT equal, especially in terms of gender. You are a living testimony not only to how far women have come, but to how much progress must be made for a truly serene society.
As a college-aged woman, your experience has truly inspired me to become more involved in activism. Although I have been politically active for years, the injustice of your situation inspired me to call my senators for the first time. In addition, I know many other women and girls who were truly in awe of your courage. It is certain that many have been inspired to report their own assaults and seek justice because of your efforts.
Finally, I think it is crucial you know just how inspirational you are to young women. You faced a terrifyingly powerful committee of senators (and a prosecutor) whilst answering questions about the most terrifying event of your life on a national stage. To us, you are a true heroine. You have inspired so many young women to vote, become activists, report their own sexual assaults, and to speak out against injustice. You are an amazingly intelligent and strong human being, and I hope you are able to find peace during this trying time.
